Amazon Interview
In a previous article I explained the five steps to creating
an expert interview series that
can be used to build your online community, create valuable content and
establish yourself as an authority in the market of your choice.
In
this article I want to go into more detail about step number one, selecting
your topic.
To recap, the five steps are:
1. Select a Hot
Topic
Be
sure to select a topic that is interesting enough to attract listeners AND guests.
2. Create a "Wish
List" of Guest Experts
Don't let your fears stop you from creating a great expert
interview series. There are MANY experts
out there who would love to be interviewed
by you.
3. Record your Interviews
With
today's technology this can be as simple as setting up a free
teleconference line and
using the recording they provide.
4. Create a Playback Page
I love using a WordPress.org
blog to create free, professional looking playback pages.
5. Build your
Community
You
should act as the "Gatekeeper" and have people provide their
email address on a registration
page that you create in order to listen to the recorded interviews.
So
let's talk a bit about selecting your hot topic. You MUST put effort into
selecting your interview series topic or you will have a hard time driving
people to it and an even harder time getting
your experts to agree to the series in the first place.
Selecting
a topic for your interview series will be similar to selecting a topic for
a website, an information product, a membership site theme, etc. I always
recommend selecting a topic that incorporates
two key elements: passion and profit.
In
other words you want to be passionate about the topic, but there must be a
market willing to invest in learning more about this topic. While knowing
whether or not you are passionate about a topic is pretty clear, it's NOT
always so clear if you are on target with a profitable
topic or not.
Here
is a great place to look to decide if you have a profitable topic or
not. I'm sure you're familiar with it, but you may not have thought to use this
as a resource for researching your interview
series topic.
Amazon.com.Amazon
is an incredible place to look for hot topics. Amazon sells billions of dollars
of products and you can do a great deal of market research right there on their
site. I suggest that you go to Amazon.com/books. Then simply look to the left
for a list of categories. Find one that most closely matches your general topic
and select it. You can then have Amazon sort these books by "Best
Selling" and start browsing.
In
a matter of minutes, you can feel very confident about whether or not you
should pursue your topic idea for your best-selling interview
series.
